In honour of Autism Awareness month, we would like to share a very special story with you. A couple of years ago, Josie Scott and her family adopted two Morgan horses that were destined for the slaughter house, giving them a home, and changing her son John Thomas’ life forever. Just the interaction between John Thomas and Amadeus, an older Morgan gelding, completely transformed John Thomas. Please read below, in Josie Scott's own words:
~
“Before this beautiful creature came from God, my youngest son was considered to have George's Autism , without social abilities and unable to maintain a friendship . He really did not talk but one or two word sentences and unable to be in groups of people without emotional outbursts, causing him to pull his fingernails from his hands . With Amadeus my son John thomas conquered the world, able to make a best friend who he strove to learn to read for, and was able to cope with being around our groups of people in open social environments . John thomas this year had entered into a regular high school in general education class and was able to keep up. I will never be able to thank that horse for the change enough.
The love for Amadeus has hurt my family very much and I am hoping by letting Morgan Safenet share it keeps people open to helping rescuing horses and the good horses do for disabled people as well as all the lives just this one horse touched. I can name over 30 lives that have changed for the one love of just this one horse whether they rode him, met him, hugged on him, or just laughed at the stuff he and Johnthomas would do together. His memories will never end for us.”
~ We are sad to report that Amadeus passed on 1 April 2015, and John Thomas still very much mourns this loss. Luckily he still has Stroker, the second Morgan horse, to whom he seeks comfort.
When we support therapeutic riding, and horse rescue societies, we give both horses and humans the chance to better their lives, and in some cases save them. We support this 100 percent!
